Tennis Elbow is a term used to describe pain located on the outside of the?elbow. The medical term is lateral epicondylitis. Despite what the name may suggest, you do not have to play tennis to suffer from this condition. It is a common repetitive strain injury which can be caused by any activity that involves repeated or heavy gripping (using the hammer to do some DIY) or sustained wrist extension (involved in typing for long periods of time). It can be an extremely debilitating condition and it can become a chronic pain despite long periods of rest.
Our physiotherapists offer a wide variety of treatments proven to help, including specific massage, ultrasound, acupuncture, interferential therapy, exercise advice and cortisone injections. If a combination of rest, anti-inflammatory medication and basic physiotherapy does not resolve the problem, a cortisone injections is the most appropriate treatment. A cortisone injection often provides significant and immediate relief.
