Gareth started his career as a physiotherapist in the NHS over 16 years ago. He gained experience working across a variety of departments in large general hospitals during the first 6 years of his career. It was during this time he developed a passion for the treatment of patients following life changing injuries and sports injuries. He left the NHS in 2008 and over the past 10 years he has developed a network of specialist private physiotherapy clinics across South Wales. Gareth currently splits his time between the management of IPS clinics and treating patients.
Gareth has a wealth of knowledge and specialist skills. He has a degree in Sport & Exercise Science as well as a degree in physiotherapy. He is a qualified acupuncturist and is qualified to perform joint and soft tissue injections (cortisone & hyaluronic acid). As well as having excellent hands-on treatment skills, he has expert knowledge of strength & conditioning which he utilises to maximise the recovery of his patients. He attends regular courses and conferences with world renowned physiotherapists to ensure he is using the most up-to-date evidence-based practice.
Gareth has successfully treated elite athletes and weekend warriors from a wide variety of sports for many years. He is able to empathise with the psychological distress that follows serious injury, having recovered from a number himself (including ACL rupture, ankle fracture dislocation, fractured spine!). Over the past 6 years, he has also specialised in the rehabilitation of patients follow life changing injuries. The majority of these patients have been involved in road traffic collisions. He has rehabilitated a number of patients from intensive care back to a high level of activity including completing an Ironman. He has worked with some patients for 3 years before they reach their full potential. He enjoys developing a strong rapport and acting as a mentor for his patients. He understands the need for rehabilitation to be fun and varied to maintain the patient‘s motivation. He treats the patients at a number of different locations including gym, swimming pool, sea, sand dunes, parks, running tracks and mountains. Gareth has an excellent understanding of the medicolegal process. He works closely with case managers, insurance companies and solicitors. He has written many specialist reports and has been on training courses with the Medicolegal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.
Gareth enjoys participating in and watching a number of sports. He played rugby for Wales U19, U21, Students and Universities, UWIC and was a professional player at the Scarlets. Injury forced him to stop playing rugby at a young age, which lead him to pursue a career in physiotherapy. He currently enjoys weight-lifting, doing Crossfit (at Crossfit31) and playing golf. He is married with 2 children.
